Oktober.

Do you remember the post where Joseph's mom shipped us these?? Well, if you can't tell what they are or are simply too lazy to click on the link, they are our bikes from home. She sent them about five months ago and I personally just got around to using mine.
I have a fair excuse though!
I didn't know how to use my bike lock or what you are supposed tie it to without having someone steal it. There is seriously something wrong with San Diego when it comes to people stealing bikes. Everyone at my job and Joseph's job have had their bikes stolen while they were at work or at the bar! Crazy....
Anyway. Last month, Joseph, Shannon, and I decided to attend Fat Tire's Second Annual Tour de Fat. We attended last year if you remember this. BUT, this year I actually did the bike ride!

Look at me go!

It was actually a really nice ride through Hillcrest. The weather was perfect, the company was good, and it was nice to have a day off of work!

The same 'ol crazies came out to drink beer, watch funny shows, and relax in Balboa Park. We got kind of sick of sitting around, so we went on a walk around the park and ran into this....

A car had crashed into this other poor car and there was police everywhere!

Yes, the hippie lady was too blame. She had driven over a mile on 6th Avenue after getting off the freeway and hit SEVERAL cars. And even though she wasn't drunk, she was under the influence of narcotics.... she denied it. Maybe she shouldn't be wearing a tie-dye dress..??? Just saying.

Shannon missed all the mess because she wanted to lay and in the sun and look like a rag-a-muffin. Yes, I am pretty sure she made that word up and did look like one :)

Tour De Fat.

Saturday morning, Joseph and Shannon (a friend that just moved here from Des Moines and we went to college with) went on a bike ride with the Tour De Fat, which ended with a festival. The whole event is put on by New Belgium Brewing, the company who brought us Fat Tire beer. I, of course, did not ride because I don't have a bike, and Joseph advised against me taking my Vespa, so I just met up with them after the ride.
We found out it was San Diego's first year holding the Tour De Fat event, which makes it the 11th Western city on their "tour". After Joseph did a little research, he realized how dedicated some of these people are and how much time they put into their costumes for the festivities.

This guy's "costume" was probably the tamest of all. A lot of people got really creative with their outfits. I saw one lady with "hair" made of bicycle chains, another group were Teletubbies, not to mention all of the accessories made of tire material.

These girls, The Rockettes, did some crazy tricks with mini-bikes and did a whole dance routine for about (20) minutes. I can't believe someone didn't faint, it was so hot out and they were non-stop!

After watching a mini-concert, a magic show, a sipping on a couple of cups of beer, the finale began. What I didn't know was that the main event includes someone volunteering ahead of time to trade-in their car for a bike. The "winner/volunteer" vows to ride only a bike for a full year! Can you imagine?! Crazy... (The woman above gave her 1997 car for a bike and made the vow. Let me mention that Tour De Fat auctions the car off and gives back by improving & creating more bike trail within the city)

The final musical performance was March Forth Marching Band. They were awesome. Very entertaining!

They even had performer's on stilts that were doing crazy flips and dance moves. It was a nice way to spend the day/afternoon. Who could resist?? Yay for Joseph finding out about this event and actually riding his bike for it!
